CrimeKick Privacy Policy

You should read this, along with the Terms of Service policy in full, but here are a few key things we hope you take away from it:
  • Your email address and postal code is private and cannot be publicly seen by other CrimeKick users. Only your username (which can be a pseudonym) is seen publicly when you create or interact with content on CrimeKick (for example, creating a post).
  • When creating an account, CrimeKick requires a postal code which we use to provide you with relevant news and content. Your postal code is not specific to your address and is shared among an average of 19 other houses so your exact location remains unknown to CrimeKick and users on CrimeKick.
  • You can choose to share additional information with CrimeKick like your phone number to receive additional notifications

1.0 Accounts & Information we collect

1.1 Account Information: We require certain information to provide our services to you. For example, you must have an account in order to upload, create, or share content on CrimeKick. When you choose to share the information below with us, we collect and use it to operate our services.

You don’t have to create an account to use some of our service features, such as viewing shared CrimeKick posts. If you do choose to create an account, you must provide us with some information so that we can provide our services to you. On CrimeKick this includes a username (can be a pseudonym), a password, an email, and a postal code (your postal code is shared among several other houses). Your username will appear publicly when you create content on CrimeKick, but your postal code and email will remain private and not visible to other users.

As outlined in our Terms of Service, you are responsible for the content you create on CrimeKick and other information you provide through our services.

1.2 Optionally Provided Information:

Notifications

CrimeKick allows you to opt in or out to receive certain notifications. You may optionally provide your phone number to receive CrimeKick text notifications. If you decide to invite new members to join CrimeKick, you can choose to share their email address with us, or share your contacts with us, so we can send an invitation and follow-up reminders on your behalf.

Your Location

When you create an account CrimeKick you are required to provide a postal code which we use to provide you with relevant news and content. Your postal code is not specific to your address and is shared among an average of 19 other houses so your exact location remains unknown to CrimeKick and users on CrimeKick.

Some features on CrimeKick (for example, creating a post) may prompt you to provide your current location to make our services easier to use. Providing your current location is optional and you will still have access to all of CrimeKick features whether or not you allow your current location.

2.0 Technical Information we collect

2.1 From your browser and device: Like nearly every other online service, we automatically collect technical information when you visit or use CrimeKick including:

Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of data that is stored on your computer or mobile device. Like many websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to collect additional website usage data and to operate our services. Cookie data helps us recognize you and remember your preferences. Some, but not all cookie data is associated with your CrimeKick account. You can configure your browser to reject cookies, but doing so will prevent you from logging into our website.

Log Data

We receive information when you view content on or otherwise interact with our services, which we refer to as “Log Data,” even if you have not created an account. This typically includes the date and time you visited, device data, the browser or app version you used (and its settings), the URLs you come from and go to, your IP address and protocol, and how you used CrimeKick (for example, which links you clicked on).

3.0 Data Retention and Information Disclosure

3.1 Data Retention: We may retain your information in our server logs, our databases, and our records for as long as necessary in light of the purposes set out in this Policy, subject to any legal obligations to further retain such information.

3.2 Data Disclosure: We may preserve, use, or disclose your data and information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the safety of any person; to protect the safety or integrity of our platform, including to help prevent spam, abuse, or malicious actors on our services, or to explain why we have removed content or accounts from our services; to address fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect our rights or property or the rights or property of those who use our services.

4.0 Additional information

4.1 Other Websites: In using CrimeKick, you may come across links to websites and services operated by third parties (for example, if a member shares a link to a video on YouTube, or if an advertiser provides a link to a contest or sweepstakes). These third parties have their own privacy policies, which will apply to your activity if you click on the link and access their website or service. We do not accept any responsibility or liability for such external sites’ privacy and security practices.

4.2 Amendments to this Policy From time to time we may make changes to this Policy, so please review it periodically. If we materially change our Policy, we will take steps to notify you in advance of the change, for example by posting a notice in your neighborhood feed.
